NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the Swat suicide bombing carried out outside a police station in Swat’s Kabal area on August 2, describing the attack as a grave act of terrorism.
The Council members expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the attack, which claimed the lives of at least 16 Pakistani citizens and left dozens of others injured. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the deadly assault.
The Security Council members conveyed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and the people of Pakistan.
They also extended their best wishes for the full and speedy recovery of those injured in the explosion.
The statement reasserted the international community’s firm stance against terrorism, emphasizing that acts of terrorism, regardless of their motivation, location, or perpetrators, are criminal and unjustifiable.
It stressed that terrorism continues to pose one of the gravest threats to global peace, security, and stability.
The UNSC further underlined the importance of ensuring accountability for those responsible for the attack. It called on all states to cooperate in bringing the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of terrorist acts to justice through lawful means.
The Council urged all countries to fulfill their obligations under international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions by extending full cooperation to the Government of Pakistan in investigating the incident and combating terrorism.
The statement mentioned the need for strengthened international collaboration in counterterrorism efforts, stressing that effective cooperation among states remains essential to preventing future attacks and ensuring regional and global security.
The suicide bombing occurred outside a police station in Kabal, Swat, where security personnel and civilians were present.
The attack resulted in significant casualties and drew widespread condemnation from Pakistan’s leadership and the international community.
