ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram has responded to the controversy surrounding recent remarks made by PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, emphasizing that the party’s official position is represented solely by Imran Khan.
Speaking during a private television talk show, Sheikh Waqas Akram avoided directly commenting on Noreen Niazi’s statements regarding the recent military confrontation, the Pakistan Armed Forces, and India. Instead, he stressed that PTI’s policies and viewpoints are based exclusively on the statements and guidance of the party’s founder.
Addressing the issue, Sheikh Waqas Akram said that Noreen Niazi is like an elder sister to him and recalled that previous public reactions to one of her statements had created unnecessary misunderstandings. For that reason, he said he preferred not to comment on her latest remarks.
He further stated that whenever Imran Khan presents his position on any matter, it becomes the party’s official stance, leaving no room for differing interpretations. According to him, Imran Khan’s views regarding the Pakistan Armed Forces are already well documented and available on record, making it unnecessary to engage in further controversy.
The PTI leader added that Noreen Niazi is personally responsible for her own statements and that they should not be interpreted as the party’s official policy.
Responding to a question about the planned protest on August 5, Sheikh Waqas Akram said that Aleema Khan, another sister of Imran Khan, has every right to campaign for her brother’s release. He stated that if she initiates any movement or protest for that purpose, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will fully support her efforts.
He reiterated that PTI intends to hold peaceful and constitutional protests across the country and remains committed to exercising its democratic rights within the framework of the law.
The controversy emerged after Noreen Niazi made a series of remarks during a recent interview concerning the military confrontation, the Pakistan Armed Forces, and relations with India. Her comments prompted reactions from political circles and generated public debate.
While refraining from directly addressing the substance of those remarks, Sheikh Waqas Akram sought to clarify the party’s position by reaffirming that PTI’s official policy is determined solely by Imran Khan. He also remarked that no external adversary, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, possesses the capacity to inflict harm on Pakistan, expressing confidence in the country’s strength and resilience.
The PTI leadership has maintained that the party remains focused on peaceful political activity while distancing its official position from individual statements made by figures who do not speak on behalf of the party.
