ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif congratulated Spain on winning the FIFA World Cup on Sunday and also expressed support for Palestine.

Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup final at New Jersey Stadium to lift their second men’s world title.
The victory also made Spain the first country to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup titles.
The final remained goalless throughout regulation time despite Spain dominating possession and creating the better chances. Argentina’s disciplined defence and goalkeeping kept the European side at bay.
The decisive moment came late in the second period of extra time. Veteran striker Fernando Torres headed home from a pinpoint cross to seal Spain’s historic victory.
“It’s a dream we never dared to speak aloud,” Spain’s head coach said after the match. “But these players believed, and now we stand alone in history.”
The triumph added to Spain’s only previous men’s World Cup title, won in 2010. It also followed the country’s women’s World Cup success in 2023, when Spain defeated England in the final in Australia and New Zealand.

Argentina’s defeat ended their reign as world champions. The loss also denied captain Lionel Messi what is widely expected to be his final World Cup title.
Spain’s national team is expected to return to Madrid on Tuesday, where a victory parade is planned to celebrate the historic achievement.
