ANKARA: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday during his official visit to Turkiye, the security sources said.
The meeting came a day after Field Marshal Munir received the Turkish Armed Forces Top Military Service Medal, one of Turkiye’s highest military honours, in recognition of his role in strengthening defence cooperation and strategic ties between the two countries.
The Turkiye media reported that Turkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Chief of the General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Director of the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) İbrahim Kalın also attended the meeting.
Field Marshal Munir was also presented with a Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Ankara, underscoring the close defence relationship between the longstanding allies.
The reports say the meeting with President Erdogan focused on bilateral relations, defence cooperation, regional security and matters of mutual interest. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding strategic and military ties between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The visit reflects the growing defence partnership between Islamabad and Ankara, which have strengthened cooperation in military training, defence production and regional security in recent years.
According to the security sources, Field Marshal Munir has received high-level military honours from more than 10 countries, making him one of the most decorated serving military leaders internationally.
