RAWALPINDI : The body of a seven-year-old boy who fell into a drain during play was recovered on Wednesday, three days after the tragic incident occurred in Habib Colony, Gowalmandi area.
The victim, identified as Wisal, was playing with other children on the banks of a rainwater drain when he was pushed by a playmate during a game. Due to the rapid flow of water caused by recent rains, the child was swept away and drowned before anyone could rescue him.
CCTV footage that surfaced after the incident shows several children playing near the drain’s edge. In the footage, a child is seen pushing Wisal, causing him to lose balance and fall into the fast-moving water.
Rescue teams launched a search operation immediately after the incident was reported. The body was finally recovered on the third day from a drain near Gowalmandi and handed over to police.
Authorities have completed legal formalities, and the body will be handed over to the grieving family after the completion of all proceedings.
Local residents have expressed anger over the lack of safety barriers around open drains in the area, calling on authorities to take action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
