Shahid Afridi Visits UN Headquarters, Meets Pakistan’s Envoy in New York

NEW YORK: Former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Shahid Afridi, visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York and met with Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.

Afridi made this visit on the invitation of Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, where he was briefed on various departments of the global body and its practical work. He was informed about how the United Nations plays its role in promoting international peace and security, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, and strengthening multilateral cooperation among member states.

During the meeting, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad welcomed Shahid Afridi and paid tribute to his outstanding contributions to Pakistan cricket. He noted that Afridi brought pride not only to Pakistan but also earned global recognition through his aggressive batting style, all-round performances, and memorable displays on the field.

The ambassador also appreciated Afridi’s philanthropic and humanitarian work, stating that his efforts for social welfare have served as a source of hope and support for underprivileged segments of society.

Later, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad hosted a dinner in his honor, which was attended by Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Osman Jadoon, mission officials, and other distinguished guests.
