KARACHI: The major terrorist plot targeting sensitive installations and law enforcement agencies in Karachi has been foiled following joint intelligence-based operations conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and security agencies.
In this regard, the coordinated raids were carried out in two different areas of Karachi based on credible intelligence reports. During the operations, five BLA terrorists and Fitna al-Khawarij, were arrested.
The three alleged BLA operatives as Imran Khan alias Shaukat, Zaheer Ahmed, and Muhammad Riaz. Investigators revealed that the suspects were conducting reconnaissance of sensitive locations in Karachi under the directions of a BLA commander identified as Abdul Rehman.
Security officials further disclosed that the arrested BLA members were allegedly waiting for additional accomplices to arrive in Karachi before carrying out planned attacks in the city.
Meanwhile, in separate intelligence-based operations, authorities also arrested two suspected militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, identified as Hujatullah and Habibullah.
The two men arrived in Karachi on the instructions of a commander identified as Hidayatullah and allegedly conducted surveillance of offices belonging to law enforcement agencies.
The suspects are believed to have shared reconnaissance information with their handlers and were reportedly awaiting the arrival of another operational cell from Afghanistan to execute planned attacks.
During the operations, law enforcement personnel recovered weapons and ammunition from the possession of the suspects. Officials said the names of the arrested individuals had appeared in multiple threat alerts issued by security agencies, and investigators believe they were part of an anti-Pakistan militant network.
