HYDERABAD : Leftover custard served at a wedding ceremony in the Qasimabad area has led to a mass food poisoning incident, with at least 107 people hospitalized, officials confirmed Wednesday.
The affected individuals, including young children, teenagers, and elderly guests, were rushed to Qasimabad Taluka Hospital after complaining of vomiting, severe stomach pain, and a sudden deterioration in health. Hospital authorities declared an emergency and mobilized additional medical facilities to handle the influx of patients.
One affected youth told reporters, “I ate the custard. Soon after, I started vomiting and had intense stomach pain.”
According to Deputy Commissioner Zainul Abidin Memon, an initial investigation report points to the custard as the source of the poisoning. The district administration has directed the Sindh Food Authority to inspect the catering center responsible for the wedding meal.
District Health Officer Dr. Pir Ghulam Hussain stated that all affected individuals are now out of danger but remain under observation as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the contamination and to identify those responsible for the lapse in food safety.
