LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering significant changes to the national cricket team’s leadership and management structure as part of its efforts to improve performance and strengthen future planning.
In this regard, the former Pakistan captain and legendary batter Younis Khan is being considered for the position of head coach of the national Test team.
The proposal is currently under review as the board evaluates options aimed at increasing the team’s competitiveness and long-term development.
Furthermore, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez is likely to be assigned the role of Director of Cricket International within the PCB.
The reported changes are part of broader discussions within the PCB regarding the future direction of Pakistan cricket. In addition, the officials are believed to be assessing various aspects of team management, leadership, and performance as they seek to strengthen the national setup across all formats of the game.
Meanwhile, sources suggest that changes in the Test team’s leadership and coaching structure are also under consideration. Test captain Shan Masood is facing the possibility of being relieved of his leadership responsibilities as part of the ongoing review process.
Similarly, adjustments to the current role of Sarfaraz Ahmed are also expected. However, sources maintain that Sarfaraz Ahmed will continue to perform his existing duties with the Pakistan Shaheens team, ensuring continuity in the development pathway for emerging cricketers.
The board is expected to formally communicate any decisions after completing its internal consultations and approval procedures.
The potential inclusion of experienced former players in key administrative, coaching, and selection roles reflects the PCB’s apparent commitment to utilizing cricketing expertise in shaping the future of the national team.
