Trump Chairs Situation Room Meeting on Iran, Speaks to Field Marshal & Iranian Officials

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump chaired a high-level meeting in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday to review the escalating situation surrounding Iran, during which he held telephone conversations with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Iranian officials, according to US media reports.

The meeting comes as the 15-day ceasefire period between the United States and Iran enters its final three days. President Trump had previously expressed optimism, stating that a deal is expected this week, though no new date for US-Iran talks has been set.

The Situation Room gathering was attended by key members of the administration, including Vice President JD Vance, who led the American delegation during the recent Islamabad talks. Sources indicated that Vance is expected to lead any subsequent negotiation rounds as well.

Other prominent attendees included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Peter Hegseth, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Besant, White House Chief of Staff Suzie Wiles, President Trump’s representative Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Dan Kaine.

Discussions focused on the new developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the broader negotiations with Iran. According to US media, President Trump spoke at least once by phone with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as with Iranian interlocutors, during the course of the meeting.

The White House has not yet issued an official statement regarding the Situation Room meeting.
