ICC Probes Canada vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Match

DUBAI: The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has launched an investigation into Cricket Canada over alleged corruption, including a specific T20 World Cup 2026 match against New Zealand.

According to reports, the ACU is currently running two separate investigations into Cricket Canada for violations of anti-corruption codes at both national and international levels.

The first probe was triggered after the broadcast of a 43-minute investigative documentary titled “Corruption, Crime & Cricket,” which highlighted serious governance issues and corruption allegations within Canadian cricket.

The documentary specifically pointed to Captain Dilpreet Bajwa’s 5th over in the match against New Zealand as suspicious.

Bajwa, who was appointed captain just three weeks before the tournament, started the over with a no-ball, followed by a wide, and conceded 15 runs in that over.

At that time, New Zealand were chasing the target and had lost two wickets for 35 runs.

A second investigation is examining a leaked phone call from last year in which coach Khurram Chauhan alleged that senior Cricket Canada officials pressured the team for player selection, with claims of match-fixing also mentioned in the audio.

Canada ultimately lost the match to New Zealand by 8 wickets.

ICC Integrity Unit General Manager Andrew Egrau confirmed that the ACU is aware of the allegations but declined to comment further on the ongoing investigations.
