ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has informed Iran and the United States that the final date for the second phase of the mediation talks will be announced only after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns from his ongoing foreign trip, sources said on Friday.
According to official sources, both Tehran and Washington have conveyed to Islamabad that the same teams which participated in the first phase of talks held in the Pakistani capital will take part in the second round as well.
The Prime Minister is currently on a tour of key regional countries, leading a high-level delegation. He first travelled to Saudi Arabia on an important visit, and will subsequently head to Qatar and Turkey.
It is expected that the second round of US-Iran talks will begin in Islamabad next week, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s return home.
The first phase of the mediation talks, hosted by Pakistan, took place earlier this year. Pakistan has been acting as a facilitator between the two countries amid ongoing efforts to ease tensions and find a diplomatic path forward. Further details regarding the exact schedule are awaited
