LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of a Cyber Crime Unit in the province.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, where key measures related to cybercrime were reviewed and approved.
Officials briefed the meeting that, under the new arrangement, victims of blackmail and harassment — particularly children — will no longer be required to visit police stations or government offices to lodge complaints.
A mobile reporting unit will be deployed to reach affected minors, both boys and girls, for registration of complaints at their doorstep.
It was further informed that a virtual police station will be introduced, allowing victims, especially women, to report cybercrimes while ensuring full confidentiality of their identity.
The meeting also decided to introduce new legislation aimed at ensuring strict and exemplary punishment for cybercriminals.
