Iran Threatens Full Closure of Strait of Hormuz After Trump Warning

TEHRAN: Iran issued a sharp warning after new threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, raising fears of further escalation and disruption to global trade routes.

Senior adviser Ali Akbar Velayati warned that any new U.S. action could trigger a broader response. He said the “resistance alliance” could target the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and give it the same strategic status as the Strait of Hormuz, potentially disrupting global shipping lanes.

Iran’s judiciary criticized Trump’s remarks and said Iranian resistance had unsettled the U.S. leader. Officials accused him of using “inappropriate language” under pressure.

Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said leadership that ignores public welfare while threatening others reflects outdated thinking.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that war crimes cannot bring success. He said U.S. policies risk pushing the region toward destruction.

Iran’s embassy in Pakistan called Trump’s conduct unbalanced and urged accountability.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations questioned global inaction and warned of serious consequences if the international community fails to act.

The statements followed Trump’s latest warning to Iran over reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened severe consequences and suggested that Iranian civilian infrastructure could be targeted.

The exchange has heightened tensions across the region and raised concerns over the security of critical global energy and trade routes.
