LAHORE: A second incident has come to light in Lahore’s government hospitals where doctors’ and lab work was reportedly being carried out by security guards.
Following Lady Willingdon Hospital, a controversial video has now emerged from Ganga Ram Hospital, showing a security guard collecting blood samples in the hospital’s blood bank.
The video shows a security guard handling a person’s blood sample inside Ganga Ram Hospital’s blood bank.
Dr. Arif, Medical Superintendent of Ganga Ram Hospital, stated that the hospital administration removed a supervisor and the security guard after the video surfaced.
Additionally, the private security company was fined Rs. 50,000 for poor performance.
Meanwhile, the fact-finding committee report on the incident revealed alarming details.
According to the report, during evening and night shifts, no blood transfusion officer or nurse was assigned in Ganga Ram Hospital’s blood bank.
Due to the absence of staff, a security guard was stationed at the blood bank.
The report further stated that night shift staff were not completing their duties, the security guard was present at the blood bank, and the blood bank operates under the Director of Blood Transfusion, with Ganga Ram Hospital only providing the space.
The committee recommended that all blood bank staff should be appointed by the Blood Transfusion Department.
It suggested assigning blood transfusion officers, nurses, and lab technicians for all three shifts and taking strict action against staff absent from duty.
