TEHRAN: Fresh strikes attributed to the United States and Israel have caused significant disruptions to Iran’s power infrastructure, leading to outages in parts of Tehran and the neighboring Alborz province, according to Iranian officials and state media.

Iranian media reported that several areas in Tehran experienced electricity cuts after attacks targeted power plants in the capital. The outages also extended to the city of Karaj, located in Alborz province northwest of Tehran.

Deputy Energy Minister Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi stated on state television that shrapnel from the strikes hit a major electricity pole on the outskirts of Karaj, contributing to the disruption in power supply. He also confirmed that a power transmission substation in eastern Tehran was destroyed during overnight attacks.

Despite the damage, Mashhadi sought to reassure the public, saying there was no cause for alarm and that authorities were actively managing the situation.

According to Fars News Agency, electricity has already been restored in most parts of Tehran and Karaj. The Ministry of Energy acknowledged that the outages were caused by damage to sections of the electricity grid in Alborz province.

The ministry added that technical teams are working to restore power to the remaining affected areas as quickly as possible.

The strikes mark a further escalation in tensions in the region, with critical infrastructure increasingly becoming a target.
