WASHINGTON: The United States has confirmed Pakistan’s mediating role in the Washington backchannel talks with Iran.
The US Cabinet on Thursday confirmed Pakistan role as a mediator.
Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that the US and Iran were engaged in indirect talks through Islamabad, reaffirming his country’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
Earlier on Wednesday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a day after Pakistan offered to mediate between the US and Iran to ease the conflict.

The Prime Minister briefed Mohammed bin Salman on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, condemned recent Iranian attacks on the Kingdom, and reaffirmed Islamabad’s support for Riyadh, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
