Iran Ready to Guarantee No Nuclear Weapons If Sanctions Are Lifted

TEHRAN/WASHINGTON: Iran has signaled readiness to provide guarantees that it will not develop nuclear weapons, while insisting on its right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, U.S. media reported.

Citing Iranian sources, reports said recent contacts have taken place between Iran and the United States, but the exchanges have not yet reached the level of formal negotiations.

The sources said Tehran is open to hearing serious and lasting proposals aimed at ending tensions. They added that discussions under consideration go beyond a ceasefire and could lead to a comprehensive agreement to resolve the dispute.

Officials said messages are being exchanged through intermediaries as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The reports said Iran has not formally requested direct talks with Washington. However, it may consider an agreement that safeguards its national interests.

Iranian sources stressed that any deal must include the removal of sanctions as a key condition.
