ISLAMABAD : Prominent religious scholar and political figure Maulana Tahir Ashrafi on Wednesday strongly condemned what he described as a propaganda campaign targeting the country’s military leadership and the prime minister, asserting that such efforts would not succeed.
Addressing the Ulema and Mashaikh at the Stability Pakistan Convention, Ashrafi said the campaign against the Field Marshal and the Prime Minister was unacceptable. He did not elaborate on specific allegations but framed the criticism as part of a broader effort to destabilize the country.
“Those who spread chaos in the country will be defeated,” Ashrafi told the gathering of religious scholars. He emphasized that Pakistan is playing a positive role amid current regional challenges and noted that the situation facing the region and the wider Muslim Ummah was evident to all.
Ashrafi also touched on Pakistan’s standing in the international community, claiming the country has become a prominent subject of global media coverage.
“Pakistan is today the adornment of the headlines of the media all over the world,” he said, adding that Iran is also an admirer of Pakistan.
In remarks directed at regional geopolitics, Ashrafi issued a firm statement regarding Israel, a subject that resonates deeply with religious circles in Pakistan. “Pakistan will never let the dream of Greater Israel come true,” he declared, without elaborating on specific threats or policy measures.
The Stability Pakistan Convention brought together religious scholars to discuss national unity and the country’s role in regional affairs. Ashrafi’s remarks reflected an effort to rally religious support behind the current government and military establishment amid ongoing political tensions.
