US Approves $7 Billion Arms Deal for UAE Amid Rising Iran Tensions

WASHINGTON: The United States has approved the sale of advanced weapons worth nearly $7 billion to the United Arab Emirates, according to a report by an American newspaper.

The report said the administration of Donald Trump cleared the deal. It includes about $5.6 billion in Patriot missile defense systems and $1.3 billion in advanced combat helicopters for the UAE.

The move comes as tensions with Iran escalate across the Middle East. Gulf states are seeking to strengthen their defense capabilities in response to growing security threats.

Reports added that Washington had earlier announced arms sales worth a combined $16.5 billion to three Gulf countries.

Separately, President Trump held a phone call with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders discussed recent Iranian attacks and the broader regional situation.

They also condemned attacks targeting civilians and key installations in the UAE.
