QUETTA: In a significant push against criminal activity over the past three months, Quetta police have achieved major successes, resulting in the arrest of over a hundred suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles and motorcycles. The operation, conducted under the direct instructions of IG Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir and overseen by DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat and SSP Operations Muhammad Asif Khan, targeted criminal elements across the district.
According to an official police spokesperson, the three-month campaign led to the apprehension of 116 suspects. Authorities also recovered four vehicles, 56 motorcycles, and 14 mobile phones from their possession.
The crackdown, particularly against motorcycle snatching gangs, was not without its challenges. The spokesperson reported that five police personnel sustained injuries during exchanges of fire with suspects. In the ensuing retaliatory action by law enforcement, two suspects were killed and 29 others were injured.
In parallel with these anti-crime efforts, the Quetta police have instituted a comprehensive security plan for the holy month of Ramadan. To ensure the safety of worshippers, additional personnel have been deployed at places of worship, including mosques and Imambargahs. A total of 116 officers have been specifically assigned to secure Taraweeh prayer gatherings.
Recognizing the increased rush in commercial areas, the police have deployed an additional 200 personnel, including traffic police and mobile squads, in markets and shopping centers. Patrols have been intensified in sensitive localities, and security is being bolstered by continuous surveillance through CCTV cameras.
The police spokesperson has urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or individuals immediately via the police helpline 15 or the relevant control room numbers. The official stated that these measures are designed to allow citizens to perform their worship and shopping during Ramadan with peace of mind and a heightened sense of
security.
