KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz al-Bahr in response to regional maritime security challenges and potential disruptions along key sea routes.
The operation aims to safeguard national shipping, protect maritime trade, and ensure uninterrupted energy supplies, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Monday.
According to the ISPR, the Navy is coordinating closely with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC). Squadrons are actively monitoring maritime conditions across Pakistan’s waters.
Officials said the Navy is maintaining constant vigilance to ensure the safe and secure passage of commercial vessels. Currently, Pakistan Navy ships are escorting two commercial ships, one of which is expected to arrive in Karachi today.
Nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade passes through the sea, making secure and uninterrupted shipping routes a national priority.
