Pakistan Railways increases passenger and freight train fares after rise in diesel prices

Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in fares for both passenger and freight trains. The decision was taken due to a significant increase in fuel costs which has raised the operational expenses of running trains across the country.

In this regard, fares for economy class passengers will increase by five percent, while fares for air-conditioned (AC) classes will rise by ten percent.

In addition, freight train charges will see a larger increase of twenty percent, which will apply to all goods trains operating throughout the country.

Pakistan Railways, which is already facing financial pressure, said that continuing operations at previous fare levels had become increasingly difficult due to the surge in fuel expenses.

The railway administration focused on that the entire burden of increased expenses has not been transferred to passengers.

The spokesperson said a significant portion of the additional cost will be absorbed by Pakistan Railways in order to minimize the financial impact on the public.

The revised fares will come into effect from March 9 and will apply to all passenger and freight trains operating across the country.

However, passengers who have already purchased their tickets before this date will not be affected by the new fare structure and will be allowed to travel at the previously issued ticket prices.

Pakistan Railways reiterated that the department remains committed to providing affordable and safe travel facilities to passengers.
