Petrol pump employee shot dead in Sialkot over refusal to fill can

SIALKOT : A dispute over filling a jerry can during ongoing petrol shortage fears turned fatal on Saturday night when armed men opened fire at a petrol pump in the Hajipura area, killing one employee and injuring another.

According to police officials, the incident occurred when the suspects arrived at the pump in a car. After filling their vehicle’s tank with petrol, they demanded an additional 10 liters of fuel in a separate can. However, the pump management refused to comply, citing restrictions on filling loose containers—a measure often enforced during periods of high demand or shortages.

“The accused opened fire on the pump management following the refusal,” a police spokesperson stated. The gunfire resulted in the death of one employee on the spot, while another sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, the suspects fled the scene. Police teams have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the fleeing men. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

The shooting highlights the escalating tension at fuel stations across the country, as rumors and reports of a potential petrol shortage have triggered panic buying. In recent days, long queues have been witnessed at petrol pumps in various cities, with citizens rushing to stock up on fuel. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the actual supply situation.
