China calls for immediate ceasefire after US Israel strikes on Iran, warns of regional instability

BEIJING: China has called for an immediate ceasefire following reported military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, warning that further escalation could destabilize the entire region.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “deep concern” over the developments and emphasized the need to respect Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

The statement urged all parties involved to exercise restraint, avoid actions that could heighten tensions, and return to dialogue and negotiations. Beijing stressed that maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East is in the broader interest of the international community.

The United States and Israel conducted strikes on Saturday targeting Iran’s military capabilities. Iranian state media reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in the operation.

There has been no independent confirmation of this claim at the time of reporting.

China on Sunday issued travel advisories for its citizens in the region. The Chinese Embassy in Israel advised nationals to relocate to safer areas or, if possible, depart the country via the Taba border crossing into Egypt.

The Foreign Ministry also urged Chinese citizens in Iran to leave the country “as soon as possible,” recommending overland routes through Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, and Iraq.

The commentary reiterated Beijing’s long-standing position in favor of political solutions and peaceful dialogue to resolve disputes.

The suspension includes passenger services to Dubai and Riyadh, as well as cargo operations transiting through Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport.

The airline stated that routes passing through affected airspace are being adjusted, and that it continues to closely monitor the overall security situation.
