PESHAWAR: Pakistani forces seized a Taliban post in the Topsar sector of Upper Kurram and raised the national flag, security sources said.
Officials said operations against additional Taliban border positions are ongoing. Taliban fighters abandoned several posts out of fear of continued Pakistani strikes, according to sources.
Pakistani troops raised the national flag at multiple captured positions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. When removing the Taliban flag, soldiers handled it with respect because it bore the Islamic declaration of faith, officials said.
Security sources said Pakistani troops also posed with a captured Taliban militia vehicle. They said the vehicle originated from former U.S. or NATO stockpiles supplied to the previous Afghan army and later used by Taliban forces before being seized in the latest operation.
Officials described the moves as part of Pakistan’s broader effort to secure the border and dismantle militant infrastructure.
Earlier, Pakistan captured five Afghan posts in Paktia province opposite South Waziristan and raised its national flag, security sources said.
The seized positions included two posts opposite Shawal, two opposite Angoor Adda, and one opposite Zarmalan.
Officials said Pakistan also destroyed the Afghan terminal at Angoor Adda during the operation.
