ISLAMABAD: Pakistan carried out limited and precise intelligence-based strikes inside Afghanistan late last night. The operation was conducted on the basis of verified, credible and actionable intelligence.
In this sense, a total of seven targets at six different locations were engaged during the operation.
So far, the initial intelligence assessments indicate that between 75 and 80 militants were killed in the strikes.
In this regard, the security sources focused on that all targets were facilities and training camps associated with “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a term used by officials to describe the TTP.
They clarified that the individuals targeted were not Afghan civilians but militants, many of whom were of Pakistani origin and had taken up arms against the state.
The operation, they said, was conducted with a high degree of precision to ensure that only terrorist infrastructure was affected.
Security officials also rejected claims circulating on social media from certain Afghan and Indian accounts, describing them as baseless, fabricated and misleading.
The action was undertaken in response to a series of terrorist incidents that have occurred in various parts of Pakistan over the past two months.
They reasserted that the protection of Pakistani citizens remains a top priority and that every attack on the country will be met with an effective and proportionate response.
Pakistan has expressed the expectation that the Afghan interim authorities will cooperate in taking effective action against terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil.
