Ulema issue fatwa: Armed struggle against state is ‘Haram’

QUETTA: In a significant development, a coalition of Pakistan’s leading scholars has issued a unanimous declaration addressing the ongoing security situation in Balochistan. The joint statement categorically declares all forms of violence, terrorism, atrocities, and the killing of innocent people as un-Islamic, equating such acts with “corruption on earth.”

The scholars emphasized that the sanctity of human life is paramount in Islam. In their strongly worded statement, they clarified that targeting civilians, workers, passengers, or security personnel is absolutely forbidden (haraam). The scholars took a blunt stance, asserting that there is no room in Islam for terrorism, armed rebellion, or damage to public facilities, irrespective of any political, linguistic, or ethnic ideology used to justify it.

Rejection of Self-Styled Jihad

The declaration strongly denies any individual or group the right to take the path of self-styled jihad or violence in the name of religion. The scholars termed such actions a blatant distortion of Islamic teachings, stating that taking up arms without the explicit permission of the state is against Islamic principles.

A Call for Peace and Dialogue

While unequivocally rejecting the actions of extremists, the scholars also acknowledged the legitimate concerns regarding justice and development facing the people of Balochistan. They asserted that the solution to these problems lies exclusively in a peaceful, legal, and moral path.

The scholars made a fervent appeal to the youth of the province, urging them to adopt the path of education, patience, and positive struggle instead of militancy. They warned that violence only leads to further destruction and instability.

Demand for State Action

In a balanced message, the scholars also called upon the state to ensure a lasting resolution to the public problems of Balochistan. They demanded that this be achieved through the establishment of justice, the restoration of human dignity, and purposeful dialogue with the disaffected.

The declaration concluded with a prayer for the beloved homeland, asking Allah Almighty to protect Pakistan from sedition and corruption and to guide the nation toward peace and reconciliation.
