The Hague: World Court of Arbitration Concludes Key Hearing on Indus Waters Treaty Projects
The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague has completed an important hearing regarding disputes between Pakistan and India under the Indus Waters Treaty.
Significant progress was made in the proceedings concerning the ongoing disputes.
The Court reviewed the designs of dams constructed by India on the Western Rivers.
Pakistan presented strong legal and technical arguments related to the Indus Waters Treaty projects.
Pakistan demanded that full and proper implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty be ensured.
Despite being invited, India did not participate in the proceedings of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
The Court has taken the position that the Indus Waters Treaty must be implemented in accordance with its spirit and letter.
The two-day hearing of the case has now concluded.
Meanwhile, following its announcement of abrogating the Indus Waters Treaty, India has declared the construction of five new dams in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Indian media reports, these projects involve “off-the-river” dams, and tenders have already been invited from various companies, with bids to be finalized by mid this month.
