Eight people die in private plane crash

LOS ANGLES: A private jet crashed during takeoff at Bangor International Airport in the US state of Maine on Sunday evening.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were a total of eight people on board the aircraft.

No immediate details have been released regarding the number or condition of the injured.

Sources familiar with the incident indicated that the status of those injured remains unclear at this time.

The aircraft involved was a Bombardier Challenger 650 business jet.

Airport authorities reported that emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after 7:45 p.m. local time.

The Bangor International Airport administration stated that rescue and recovery operations would continue for several hours, with additional information to be provided later.

Following the crash, the airport was closed for the remainder of the night, and an emergency operations center has been established.

The FAA confirmed that the investigation into the accident will be conducted jointly with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

The incident occurred amid an ongoing severe winter storm affecting much of the northeastern United States. In Maine, temperatures are well below freezing, accompanied by light snowfall that has significantly reduced visibility.

According to radio audio recordings, just before the crash, air traffic controllers and pilots were discussing issues related to low visibility and de-icing procedures.

Approximately two minutes after takeoff clearance was granted, the controller announced a halt to all departures from the airfield.

Subsequently, the control tower reported that the aircraft had come to rest inverted, with three crew members and reportedly five passengers on board.
