LAHORE: A terrifying incident unfolded in the Bheke Wal area of Iqbal Town on Thursday when a lion kept privately attacked an eight-year-old girl, leaving her with serious injuries.
According to police and rescue officials, the young victim sustained wounds to her head and ear during the sudden mauling. She was immediately rushed to Sheikh Zayed Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where her condition is reported to be stable.
The Lahore police acted swiftly upon receiving information about the attack. Authorities have taken the lion’s owner into custody for questioning. Preliminary reports suggest the dangerous animal was being kept in a residential locality, raising serious concerns about public safety and the illegal or unregulated possession of exotic wildlife.
Police officials have confirmed that a thorough investigation into the matter has been launched. “Strict legal action will be taken against the lion’s owner,” a police spokesperson stated, underscoring that negligence in handling such a dangerous predator would not be tolerated. The case is expected to highlight existing regulations and potential loopholes concerning the private ownership of wild animals in urban areas.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of wildlife laws to prevent such life-threatening situations. The future disposition of the lion remains unclear as the investigation proceeds.
