Rare Snow Leopard Found Dead in Chitral

CHITRAL: Another rare snow leopard has been found dead in the pastures of Wakht village in Garam Chashma valley, Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting ongoing failure of The Wild Life Département in protecting the region’s endangered wildlife.

The animal’s body was found frozen, suggesting it had died several days earlier. Authorities shifted the carcass to a veterinary hospital, where experts will conduct a postmortem to determine the cause of death.

The leopard had been seen in nearby villages, including Wakht, Munoor, and Beghusht, over the past two months. Residents reported that it had attacked goats, raising concerns among local herders.

Officials believe heavy snowfall in higher altitudes forced the leopard to descend in search of food. This brought it into conflict with local communities.
