KABUL: With just 39 days remaining until the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Afghanistan has announced its squad for the upcoming global tournament.
Following England and Oman, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) unveiled a 15-member squad for the three-match T20 International series against the West Indies and the T20 World Cup.
The national selection committee said the squad was chosen with both events in mind, aiming to present a balanced and competitive team on the global stage.
Afghanistan will host the West Indies in a T20 series from January 19 to 22 in the United Arab Emirates. The series is seen as a key preparation opportunity ahead of the World Cup, allowing the team to work on weaknesses and test combinations.
Star all-rounder Rashid Khan will lead Afghanistan in both events, with the team relying heavily on his performance. The squad also features the return of all-rounder Gulbadin Naib and fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, strengthening both the bowling and all-round departments.
Afghanistan has been placed in Pool D of the T20 World Cup 2026. They will open their campaign against New Zealand on February 8 in Chennai.
