ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court has declared PTI leader Mirza Shehzad Akbar a proclaimed offender and issued arrest warrants for him.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Abbas Shah issued the written order. He said Akbar failed to appear despite multiple summons.
The NCCIA had registered a case against Akbar in July 2025 over controversial posts on Twitter. The challan has already been submitted to the court.
The ruling came a day after Pakistan formally sent extradition documents to the United Kingdom seeking the return of Shehzad Akbar and Adil Raja.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi handed the documents to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott during a meeting in Islamabad. Pakistan urged the UK to send both men back at the earliest.
Akbar, a former adviser to ex–prime minister Imran Khan, faces several cases. Raja, a retired army major turned YouTube commentator, is accused of running campaigns the state considers anti-Pakistan.
Naqvi and the British envoy also discussed security cooperation, bilateral ties and broader political issues.
The Interior Ministry said the extradition request was sent through the Foreign Office. Naqvi told the delegation that Pakistan valued the UK’s engagement on cases involving individuals accused of spreading propaganda from abroad.
He said freedom of expression is important but warned that false information online remains a challenge for many countries.
