Qila Saifullah Markhor post-mortem reveals brutal illegal hunt

Post-Mortem Report Released on Illegally Hunted Markhor in Qila Saifullah

QٰILA SAIFULLAH:  A post-mortem report has detailed the grisly fate of an illegally hunted markhor, declaring its carcass a hazardous and inedible result of unprofessional poaching. The examination was conducted at the Qila Saifullah Civil Veterinary Hospital on the male markhor, which was approximately two years old.

The animal, recovered by law enforcement, arrived at the hospital in a partially decomposed state. Veterinary officials found multiple bullet wounds on the body, accompanied by blood clots and signs of improper bleeding—evidence the animal received no proper field care after being shot. Internally, the report noted abnormal muscle discoloration and significant blood accumulation, pointing to severe internal damage from the hunting method.

The contents of the stomach and intestines emitted a strong odor, confirming advanced decomposition. Experts concluded the carcass was “completely unhygienic, contaminated, and unusable,” stating the unsafe and unprofessional hunt caused rapid spoilage. The report definitively ruled the meat unfit for human consumption due to pre-existing swelling, contamination, bullet wounds, and poor bleeding.

In light of these findings, the veterinary team has recommended the immediate destruction of the carcass in accordance with wildlife laws and sanitary principles. Authorities have also confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to identify and prosecute the perpetrators behind this illegal hunt, which targeted Pakistan’s protected national animal.

Meanwhile the police has killed three robbers in the Jinnah Town Police Station area of Quetta.
