Pakistan and Iran vow to enhance regional cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met with Dr. Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in Islamabad.

The meeting focused on Pakistan-Iran relations, regional security, parliamentary cooperation, and prospects for enhanced economic partnership.

During the discussion, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the importance of deepening regional peace, stability, and mutual collaboration.

He noted that Pakistan and Iran share close, brotherly ties as neighbouring nations, and highlighted that the recent high-level interactions between the leaderships of both countries will serve as a significant step toward further strengthening bilateral relations.

Later on, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Dr. Ali Larijani also met the President Asif Zardari.

The president greeted him on taking charge of his seat.

The president praised Iran’s support to Pakistan during the Pak-India war. President Asif Ali Zardari admired Iran’s effort for the rehabilitation of the flood victims in Pakistan.

He asked Ali Larijani to convey his good wishes to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatullah Khamenei.

Both the leaders exchanged thoughts on the regional situations and the measures on the anti-terrorism.

Earlier, the Dr. Ali Larijani also met the Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

The PM stressed to enhance the cooperation for the regional security and a credible action against the militancy on the both sides.

The prime minister expressed his gratitude for Iran’s support to Pakistan during the hard times.

The Iranian visitor stressed to promote the efforts for the enhancement of cooperation in the sectors of mutual interest.

It is worth mentioning that both Pakistan and Iran have developed some new grounds of cooperation to counter cross-border terrorism and promote bilateral trade in the recent time.

Both countries have resolved to take necessary measures against the militants that have launched several attacks on the armed forces, the civilians and the development infrastructure on the either side of the border.
