KHUZDAR: Alarmed citizens in Khuzdar have raised a red flag over a dangerous and growing trend on the city’s roads: the illegal and excessive use of high-intensity searchlights and decorative headlights on vehicles, which they say is becoming a major cause of road accidents and traffic hazards after dark.
According to numerous locals, the blinding glare from these unauthorized lights severely disrupts the vision of oncoming drivers, creating perilous conditions on main arteries and in crowded marketplaces. This practice, they report, has made nighttime travel a significant challenge, increasing the risk of head-on collisions and other accidents.
The issue is particularly prevalent among young motorcyclists, who have been frequently seen installing bright red, white, and neon lights on their bikes. This not only violates traffic laws but also adds a layer of unpredictability and danger for other road users. Residents warn that Khuzdar’s roads are already plagued by traffic congestion, reckless driving, and encroachments, and the addition of these blinding lights is exacerbating an already critical situation.
In response to this public safety crisis, citizens have made a direct appeal to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khuzdar, Shehzada Umar Abbas Babar, urging immediate intervention. Their demands include an outright ban on illegal and high-intensity searchlights, special instructions to traffic police for strict enforcement and checks at key locations, and a sustained campaign to penalize violators with fines and the removal of the prohibited equipment.
The community has expressed hope that the district police will act swiftly on their appeal. They believe that a proactive crackdown is essential to curb this hazardous trend and make the streets of Khuzdar safe for everyone during night hours.
Meanwhile in a significant push to bolster public health, a high-level team led by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Naeem Khan conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign across various union councils in the district on Monday.
The delegation, which included World Health Organization (WHO) Coordinator Dr. Zarak Khan Achakzai and District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Bahadur Khan Loni, oversaw the immunization activities on the ground.
