NEW YORK: Hamas and several other factions have rejected a United Nations Security Council draft resolution tied to the United States President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan, hours before the Council is expected to vote on the measure.
In this regard, as per the report of Al Jazeera, the Security Council is scheduled to vote today on the plan, which includes provisions for deploying international forces in Gaza and establishing a new governance structure for the territory.
The draft resolution forms part of a broader framework that seeks to reshape administrative control in Gaza following months of regional tensions.
Furthermore, Hamas and other Palestinian groups have strongly opposed the proposal, issuing statements that reject any attempt to place Gaza under the authority of foreign powers or international military forces.
They argued that decisions regarding Gaza’s governance must remain in Palestinian hands and should not be influenced or directed by external actors.
In addition, there are several reports by Al Arabiya indicating that Palestinian factions view the draft resolution as a direct challenge to Palestinian sovereignty. They warned that if adopted, the measure would grant foreign entities significant influence over Gaza’s political and security landscape, potentially undermining Palestinians’ right to self-governance.
The groups expressed particular concern that the proposed deployment of international forces in Gaza could limit Palestinian political autonomy and weaken local authority.
They stated that any arrangement that transfers control to non-Palestinian actors would be unacceptable and would contradict the aspirations of the Palestinian people. The Security Council prepares for the vote, diplomatic efforts continue among member states, with several countries expected to either question or support the draft resolution.
The outcome remains uncertain, and the proposal has already sparked intense debate among regional governments, international observers, and humanitarian organizations.
