Gomal University expels students after series of campus unrest incidents

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gomal University has expelled several students following a series of serious disciplinary violations that disrupted campus order in recent weeks.

The university reported that, on multiple occasions in October, groups of students allegedly accompanied by individuals from outside the campus were involved in incidents that included storming the registrar’s office, assaulting a female student, and attempting to forcibly enter the office of the vice-chancellor.

The police guard was attacked during an altercation. The administration also cited episodes of misconduct during the national anthem at an official event, as well as reports of anti-Pakistan slogans shouted during the screening of a cricket match.

The university formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter. The case was forwarded to the disciplinary committee.

The show-cause notices were issued to the accused students, who were asked to submit their responses. The administration ordered the expulsion of the students involved and cancellation of their admissions.

Moreover, the hostel rooms allotted to them were vacated and sealed. Those expelled include Aman Burki, Irfanullah, Nangyal Bittani, Ehsan Mehsud, and Tariq Bittani. In addition, former student Amir Bittani has been barred from entering the campus for five years.

The university further stated that the expelled individuals would not be eligible for admission to any other academic institution, in accordance with established disciplinary rules.

On the contrary, Dera Ismail Khan has been surviving under the disruptive and terrorizing elements since 9/11.

The administration said that a small group, allegedly supported by “disruptive elements,” has been attempting to undermine the university’s peaceful environment.

Officials noted that despite ongoing improvements in academic and administrative affairs under Vice-Chancellor Dr. Zafar Iqbal, certain factions sought to create unrest through “false propaganda” and organized disturbances.

The university has requested assistance from the district administration and local police, focusing on its commitment to maintaining a secure and conducive educational atmosphere.
