QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly has passed the bill prohibiting child marriage.
The opposition protested against the bill with intense slogans and noise, however, the bill was passed comfortably by the number game.
Speaking to the media during the provincial assembly session, Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti said that legislation is the constitutional right of the government, and the provincial administration has exercised that right today.
He stated that the majority of assembly members expressed their views on the presented bill and voted in its favor, which reflects the strength of the democratic process.
The Chief Minister added that protest is the democratic right of the opposition, and the government not only respects this right but also keeps the doors of dialogue and discussion open at all times.
He said that differences of opinion are the beauty of democracy; however, laws are always made in the best interest of the public.
Regarding the bill aimed at prohibiting child marriage, the Chief Minister clarified that the bill had been under review in the relevant committees of the Balochistan Assembly for the past six months, and all procedures were followed properly.
He mentioned that the Balochistan Cabinet had approved this bill long ago, and it was passed in the assembly today according to parliamentary rules.
Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti emphasized that the current government has always preferred legislation based on consensus and strives to ensure that every bill is passed after extensive consultation and a transparent process.
He concluded that the government is working with full seriousness and responsibility for the development of Balochistan and the welfare of its people, and this effort will continue.
