Tajik Defence Minister meets Field Marshal, discusses regional security

RAWALPINDI: Tajikistan’s Defence Minister, Colonel General Sobirzoda Emomali Abdulrahim, called on Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, a military statement said on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting was held at GHQ on Thursday.

During the meeting, they discussed regional security, mutual interests and bilateral defence cooperation.

Both sides agreed to deepen military-to-military cooperation, especially in training, counterterrorism and regional security.

The Tajik minister praised the Pakistan Army’s professionalism and its role in promoting regional peace.

The Army Chief stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure stability in the region and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defence and security ties with Tajikistan.

Last week, General Sir Charles Roland Vincent Walker, Chief of the General Staff (CGS) of the United Kingdom Army, called on Field Marshal  Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security and measures to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation were discussed. Both sides reiterated the need for continued collaboration to ensure peace and stability in the region.

The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan Army’s achievements and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and its efforts for regional peace and stability.
