QUETTA: In a significant crackdown, the Anti-Corruption Department Balochistan has unearthed a major corruption scandal in the construction project of Dasht Shahbaz Gour College in Panjgur, leading to the arrest of a key contractor. The operation was launched in the Makran Division on the special instructions of the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Department.
Following approval from the top official, a team from the Anti-Corruption Department’s Makran Circle carried out the major operation, exposing widespread alleged corruption, misappropriation of funds, and financial irregularities within the public project. Based on what officials described as “solid evidence,” the primary contractor, Syed Ijaz Shah, was taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations have revealed alarming evidence of serious financial malfeasance. The probe points to corruption in project funds, the issuance of fake payments, and blatant violations of established construction standards, suggesting that public money was siphoned off while construction quality was compromised.
The net is widening, as an First Information Report (FIR) has been formally registered against two other individuals associated with the case, Xian Shakeel and Xian Abdul Hameed. Authorities have confirmed that raids are currently underway to apprehend the accused, who remain at large.
A spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Establishment stated that this operation is a clear reflection of the department’s determination to strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. The goal is to eliminate graft, promote transparent governance, and protect precious public resources. The spokesperson assured that the investigation is being conducted professionally and that all individuals found responsible will be brought to justice in accordance with the law. The Director General has also appealed to the public to support the ongoing anti-corruption campaign by coming forward with any relevant complaints or information.
Meanwhile the Balochistanti Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has directed authorities to implement stricter measures to prevent the illegal shipment of sugar outside the province, ensuring its stable supply and availability for local consumers.
