SSG Colonel details how forces foiled Wana Cadet College Attack

WANA: The Special Services Group (SSG) Colonel who led the clearance operation at Cadet College Wana provided a detailed account of the attack and its successful neutralisation.

Colonel Muhammad Tahir said five Afghan militants targeted the college on November 10. One militant detonated a suicide device, while others tried to breach the main gate. The attackers initially attempted to take students hostage.

“We contained the attackers in a specific block to protect the cadets,” Colonel Tahir explained. “Security forces acted swiftly and eliminated all threats between 10:00 and 10:30 pm.”

He described the college as a valuable asset for the people of South Waziristan, calling the protection of cadets a top priority. “The enemies of education tried to strike, but our troops stood as a shield between them and the students,” he said.

Colonel Tahir praised the coordinated efforts of teachers and soldiers. “Our personnel remained on duty for over 24 hours, ensuring students’ safety and preventing casualties.”

He said the operation highlighted the preparedness and professionalism of Pakistan’s security forces. “Thanks to timely action, a major terrorist plot was thwarted,” he added.

Cadets confirmed the attack occurred during drill practice. “We were calm because the Army had reached us quickly,” one student said. “No matter what the attackers do, they cannot stop us from learning,” another added.
