KARACHI: Twelve dacoits were killed during an exchange of fire with police in the Ronti Katcha area of Ghotki. According to police officials, six of the dead dacoits’ bodies were taken into custody and shifted to a hospital, while the remaining bodies were carried away by their accomplices who managed to escape.
Authorities stated that a day earlier, seven people — including a police officer — were killed and 18 others injured in an attack by the Shar gang.
A joint search operation by police and Rangers is still underway in the Katcha region.
The identities of the slain dacoits are being confirmed through fingerprints and other technological means.
Among the dead was the notorious bandit Shaho Kosh, who was wanted in multiple cases, including the killing of 12 Punjab police personnel.
The Kacha areas of Sindh and southern Punjab have long been known as strongholds for armed gangs and robbers, often referred to as dacoits.
These regions, located along the Indus River, are covered with dense forests and difficult terrain, providing natural hideouts for criminal groups.
For years, these gangs have been involved in kidnapping for ransom, highway robberies, and attacks on law enforcement.
The rugged landscape makes police operations challenging, and many of these groups possess advanced weapons, including rocket launchers and automatic rifles.
In response, police and Rangers frequently conduct joint operations to eliminate these gangs and restore peace to the area.
Despite several successful encounters, the problem persists due to limited accessibility, local support networks, and the lack of modern equipment for security forces.
The government continues efforts to establish permanent police check posts, improve communication systems, and introduce technology-based surveillance to bring lasting peace to the Kacha regions
