QUETTA: In a major step toward digital transformation, the Balochistan government has launched a new initiative that allows citizens to obtain birth, marriage, and death certificates through a mobile application.
The move follows a formal agreement signed between the Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Department and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Secretary LGRD Abdul Rauf Baloch chaired the signing ceremony, which was attended by NADRA Director General Naveed Jan Sahibzada and other senior officials.
Baloch described the initiative as a major stride toward realizing the vision of a “Digital Pakistan,” saying the new service would save citizens from the inconvenience of repeated visits to government offices.
He said the provincial government was committed to protecting children’s rights and ensuring access to essential services from birth.
The government is promoting birth registration at the grassroots level through Basic Health Units (BHUs) and educational institutions, he said, noting that timely registration is both a legal obligation and a parental responsibility.
Under the partnership, the LGRD Department and NADRA are developing an integrated digital system to centralize citizen records and streamline data entry across departments.
Baloch urged parents to register their children’s births promptly, warning that delays could create lifelong barriers. “Without birth registration, a person cannot obtain a CNIC, enroll in school, access healthcare, claim inheritance, or establish a legal identity,” he said.
He directed health departments to maintain detailed birth records in hospitals and BHUs and asked educational institutions to share student enrollment data with their respective Union Councils.
“Timely birth registration lays the foundation for a child’s future,” Baloch said. “It ensures access to education, healthcare, inheritance, and legal identity — a gateway to a safe and empowered life.”
The Balochistan government is advancing its plan to create a centralised hub to simplify business operations and attract investment to the province.
