QUETTA: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has intensified its campaign against the sale of unhygienic and substandard meat in Quetta and its surrounding areas.
During a special drive, food safety teams inspected a total of 41 meat shops. The operation led to fines for 22 butchers who were found violating hygiene and meat storage regulations.
In addition to the fines, official notices were served to 10 shops, ordering them to immediately correct identified issues. A further six establishments were penalised for operating without a valid food business licence.
Director General of the authority, Waqar Khurshid Alam, reiterated the BFA’s strict “zero-tolerance” policy towards practices that endanger public health. He also encouraged citizens to play their part by reporting any instances of unsafe food production to the authorities.

Meanwhile the BFA teams conducted a separate operations in Sibi, imposing fines on three units and issuing warning notices to nine others.
According to a spokesperson of the BFA, the food safety team, led by the Deputy Director Sibi, inspected various bakeries and food production outlets. A total of 20 units were checked, out of which three were fined, while nine were issued warning notices for operating without a BFA license.
The penalized outlets were found with major violations, including poor hygiene arrangements, failure to display expiry dates on sweets, open garbage bins, and workers not wearing gloves, masks, or hairnets during food preparation. The team said that immediate action was taken, and fines were imposed on the violators.
