Balochistan High Court declares Aimal Wali Khan’s Senate election valid

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court on Monday dismissed a petition challenging the election of Senator Aimal Wali Khan, declaring his election valid.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Kamran Malakhail and Justice Gul Hassan Tareen heard the case. The petition was filed by citizen Muhammad Ali Kanrani, who contested the legality of Aimal Wali Khan’s election as senator.

In its short order, the court ruled that all constitutional and legal requirements of the Senate election had been fulfilled. It, therefore, dismissed the petition as inadmissible, stating that a detailed judgment would be issued later.

Renowned lawyer Sangeen Khan Advocate represented Senator Aimal Wali Khan in the case.

It is pertinent to mention here that Aimal Wali Khan hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda district and serves as the president of the Awami National Party (ANP).

He was elected unopposed in the March 2024 Senate election from Balochistan. The ANP has only two lawmakers in the Balochistan Assembly; however, he was supported by the PPP and other political parties as a gesture of goodwill and cross-party collaboration.
