Balochistan Assembly demands division of Kech into two districts

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly adopted a joint resolution calling upon the provincial government to review to divide Kech district and carve out a new one comprising Tump sub-division and Mand Tehsil as Kech district’s headquarters is far away from these two areas.

The resolution was tabled by the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Meena Majeed Baloch and supported by other political parties. The house adopted the bill after a brief discussion and urged the government to divide the Kech district.

Meanwhile, Shahida Rauf criticised the provincial government for bulldozing draft bills through the legislature instead of referring them to a standing committee. She raised her objection after Mir Zahoor Buledi introduced a draft bill for the Prince Fahd Hospital, Dalbandin.

The chief minister accepted her objection, reiterating that all draft bills must be referred to a standing committee.

The chair then referred the bill to the committee concerned.

The house adopted another resolution calling upon the provincial government to review the Mines and Minerals Act, which was passed by the house in July this year.

The JUI-F lawmaker Asghar Tareen brought the resolution forward on behalf of the opposition parties.

The MPAs from the opposition said that Balochistan has no issue with the federation; however, the act needs to be reviewed and the reservations of the opposition need to be resolved.

The CM of Balochistan advised that the resolution be awarded the status of a joint resolution of the house.

The CM of Balochistan said that initially, the act was passed in the house.

However, the reservation was brought forward later on. We have always affirmed our resolve to run the house with consultation and democracy.

Every political party aims to bring development, peace, employment, and stability in Balochistan.

There should be thought-provoking debates and healthy negotiations over the act in the house. The Balochistan assembly session was postponed till Thursday.
