QUETTA: Security officials confirmed that a key commander of the Indian proxy Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) died by suicide in Chagai after fearing imminent arrest during an intelligence-based operation.
According to official sources, Zubair Baloch, 34, an advocate by profession and resident of Mangochar, was serving as the local area commander of BLF in Chagai and Dalbandin. He was allegedly working under senior militant handler Zirab and had been tasked with identifying and maturing targets for Herof-II, monitoring Chinese movements, planning attacks on security headquarters, targeting the Siahdik project, and profiling community notables for targeted killings.
Security officials said that when confronted with the prospect of apprehension, Zubair shot himself to avoid capture. “Hardcore terrorists are increasingly resorting to killing themselves rather than face arrest,” one senior officer remarked.
In follow-up actions, Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Noshki who facilitated Zubair’s movement and concealment, was neutralized. Another associate, Jahanzeb Mengal, 30, who had assisted Zubair in court matters, was apprehended. His alleged role in supporting the network is currently under investigation.

The development is being described by security officials as a significant blow to the BLF’s operational structure in Chagai district, where the group had been attempting to disrupt local stability and sabotage development projects.
