QUETTA: In a move toward political consensus, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has suspended the implementation of the recently passed Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act 2025 following objections from the opposition.
The decision was announced at a joint press conference with opposition leaders after a government-opposition meeting. CM Bugti stated that an executive order was issued to halt the act’s enforcement, emphasizing that the government is committed to making decisions with the confidence of all parties.
“A new committee with government and opposition members will be formed to draft amendments to the act through consensus,” Bugti said. He noted that since the law already exists under the 18th Amendment, the focus will now be on amendments to address concerns.
